Ultrasonic alternatives are taking market share, but we recommend this sensor if you need the basics on your station for EvapoTranspiration and need to restrict your budget. The sensor is pole mounted and requires our cross arm adapter for horizontal mounting applications.

The sensor is pole mounted and requires an adapter for cross arm attachment. The combined unit with both speed and direction provides for good wind measurements for around £400.

The Theis Clima small wind speed transmitter is an excellent classical wind speed anemometer and is relatively low cost for field studies. While it still retains moving parts, and therefore requires maintenance from time to time, it has good reliability and is probably the most popular sensor we currently supply. 
The small direction sensor is the perfect accompaniment to the AN4 if speed and direction are required. This is a resistance output sensor with a very small deadband at 0° which is unusual for analog direction sensors. 
The Metpak Transmitter from Gill instruments incorporates an ultrasonic wind measurement device. This component is also available seperately if the additional weather sensors are not a requirement. The ultrasonic sensor offers speed measurement up to 60 m/s with a 2% accuracy @ 12 m/s, and a 0-359 direction capability with no dead band.
